Read Titus ii. 9, 10: "Exhort servants to be obedient to their masters, and to please them well in all things; not answering again; Not purloining, but showing all good fidelity; that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Saviour in all things." You are to adorn religion; and in order that you may do this, you are to be obedient, submissive, honest, and faithful. 3. I fear that the conduct of many servants falls very far short of what it ought to be: but I have no business with that subject at present, any further than to put you on your guard against evil, and to urge you to maintain integrity or uprightness in all your conduct. I give you weighty admonition when I say, Be diligent, humble, honest, and faithful. 4. You may hear an unprincipled servant say, "I will take this; it is a small thing: my master or mistress will never miss it." This is a sad step in the wrong direction. He who now steals a pin may at length venture to steal a pound. 5. You may hear another unprincipled servant say, "Our master is from home, or he is out of sight: let us now have a little rest or play." What is the consequence? The work that should have been done, and done well, is not done at all, or is done in a careless and slovenly manner. And here, little as the offenders may think of it, is downright robbery. 6. All dishonest and shuffling conduct, --most sure as it is to be discovered and observed at length, --is ruinous to character. And when a poor man loses his character, he loses that which he should have accounted--his invaluable treasure. 7.
