Sure e-nough', there the moth'er bird was! I think he felt a lit'tle guilt'y just then. The bird flew up in'to the tree; but the nest and the lit'tle ones were gone! 10. Then it was a sad thing to wit'ness her dis-tress'. She flew round and round the tree, mak'ing pit'e-ous cries. 11. He then' walked slowly a-way'; and, on that day, John de-ter'mined that he would nev'er a-gain' mo-lest' the birds, --that he would nev'er stone them, and nev'er rob their nests. 18. Lit'tie chil'dren, it is al'ways best to list'en to your bet'ter nat'ure; for that will lead you in the right path. Questions.--1. Where did John find a bird's-nest? 2, 3. What did he do? 6-9.
