On the 16th, General Zastrow marched from Warrendorp towards Hamelen to join Prince Yfemberg with the corps under his command. On the 19th, General Oberg, who was at Paderborn, sent a detachment of four squadrons of dragoons, the grenadiers of his seven battalions, and Luckner's corps, to Wands Warburg, where the enemy had a camp of sive battalions, eight squadrons, andthe hussars of Nassau Sharbruc, commanded by M. Dtfmenii," who immediately upon their approach deedrriped, passed the Dymel, and.marched about three leagues beyond Ax: the-next day some of Luckner's corps having also passed that river, he1 retired to Cassel. 'On the 2 4th, General Oberg marched from Warburg, and, on the 25th, attackecifV large detachment under the command of M. de 'Waldener, wKb'had been advanced from Cassel, cut off about 200 of his light troops, and on the 26th in the morning, appeared before Cassel. When the French had marched towards Hanover, they left in that city all their baggage, &c. besides a large magazine. General Oberg had formed a lcheme to surprise it, and would certainly have effected it, had not M. de Soubise by forced marches arrived the fame day in the very crisis; and having reinforced the garrison with seven battalions, encamped in the neighbourhood of that town, with his right to the gardens and his left to the cascade. On the 27th, Prince Ysemberg, who had followed the French intheir retreat, joined General Oberg. Intelligence being received that the Saxon troops, joined by a large body of French, were on their march to reinforce the enemy, General Oberg, not being able to bring them to an action without attacking them...
