About the Book

This historic book may have numerous typos and missing text. Purchasers can usually download a free scanned copy of the original book (without typos) from the publisher. Not indexed. Not illustrated. 1906 edition. Excerpt: ... FURTHER ACQUAINTANCES BURNE-JONES, MORRIS, SWINBURNE, AND OTHERS TV/TR. HOLM AN HUNT returned towards the beginning of 1856 from his expedition to Jerusalem and the East. I must say something about these two new lines of acquaintanceship, and shall begin with the Holman Hunt connexion. Of all these persons I shall speak rather in relation to what they were when I first knew them than with regard to their later developments, though neither will these be entirely left out of count. On resetding in London, Mr. Holman Hunt resided in a house in Claverton Terrace, in the Bayswater or Tyburnia district: Mr. Robert Martineau (already mentioned) housed with him, and also Mr. Michael F. Halliday. The latter was a clerk in the House of Lords. This post allowed him a large amount of leisure, and, having artistic inclinations, he became a painter-- not quite a professional painter, yet something more than an amateur. I will not say...
