Il etait le maitre absolu de la SS (Reichsfuhrer-SS), chef de la police allemande (Chef der Deutschen Polizei), dont la Gestapo et, a partir de 1943, ministre de l'Interieur du Reich, commandant en chef de l'armee de reserve de la Wehrmacht, (Befehlshaber des Ersatzheeres der Deutschen Wehrmacht). Il est egalement considere comme le Jahrhundertmorder (- meurtrier du siecle -) par certains auteurs allemands. Il s'est suicide le 23 mai 1945 pour echapper a son jugement au proces de Nuremberg. Himmler porta la responsabilite la plus lourde dans la liquidation de l'opposition en Allemagne nazie et dans le regime de terreur qui regna dans les pays occupes. Les camps de concentration et les camps d'extermination dependaient directement de son autorite, et il mit en uvre la - Solution finale -. Himmler en 1907Ne a Munich le 7 octobre 1900, Heinrich Himmler est le deuxieme fils d'Anna Maria Heyderde et de Joseph Gebhard Himmler. Son pere, professeur au lycee de Landshut, est un homme cultive, nationaliste et conservateur sans etre antisemite. La famille est issue de la moyenne bourgeoisie catholique bavaroise et, le pere, en nationaliste convaincu, enseigne a ses fils Gebhard Ludwig (ne en 1898), Heinrich et Ernst Hermann (1905-1945) le respect de la patrie allemande.
