Extrait: Henri II d'Angleterre (5 mars 1133 - 6 juillet 1189), comte d'Anjou, du Maine et de Touraine, duc de Normandie, roi d'Angleterre (1154-1189), dit parfois Henri Court-manteau a cause du vetement court et pratique qu'il affectionnait. Il est le premier roi de la dynastie des Plantagenets et de leur empire. D'une force peu commune, perpetuellement en mouvement et tres cultive, Henri II passa sa vie a retablir les droits acquis du temps de son grand-pere maternel Henri I d'Angleterre et a maintenir son heritage territorial. Il nait au Mans, dans le comte du Maine, le 5 mars 1133. Son pere est Geoffroy V le Bel dit Plantagenet, et sa mere est Mathilde dite l'- Emperesse -, fille du roi Henri I d'Angleterre et son heritiere designee. Une guerre civile eclate en Angleterre entre Mathilde et son cousin, Etienne de Blois, comte de Boulogne, qui s'empare du trone d'Angleterre a la mort du roi Henri I d'Angleterre en 1135, alors qu'il avait jure fidelite a Mathilde. L'education d'Henri est confiee a Pierre de Saintes, ou a Guillaume de Conches, alors que ses parents sont en guerre. En 1142, a neuf ans, il part chez Robert de Gloucester, son oncle, a priori pour s'approprier les traditions de son futur pays, et developper des relations avec les soutiens de sa mere Math...
