Extrait: Fedor (Fiodor) Mikhailovitch Dostoievski (en russe: ) est un ecrivain russe, ne a Moscou le 30 octobre du calendrier julien/11 novembre 1821 et mort a Saint-Petersbourg le 28 janvier du calendrier julien/9 fevrier 1881. Il est generalement considere comme l'un des plus grands romanciers russes, et a influence de nombreux ecrivains et philosophes. Arrete pour cette raison en 1849, il est deporte dans un bagne de Siberie pendant quatre ans. Redevenu sous-lieutenant, il demissionne de l'armee en 1860 et s'engage vraiment dans l'ecriture. Epileptique, joueur couvert de dettes et d'un caractere sombre, Dostoievski mene d'abord une vie d'errance en Europe avant d'etre reconnu a son retour en Russie en 1871 apres la publication de Crime et Chatiment (1866) et de L'Idiot (1868) qui ouvrent la periode de la maturite ou l'auteur ecrit ses uvres les plus abouties: L'Eternel Mari (1870), Les Demons (1871) et Les Freres Karamazov (1880). Ses romans sont parfois qualifies de - metaphysiques - tant la question angoissee du libre arbitre et de l'existence de Dieu est au c ur de la reflexion de Dostoievski tout comme la figure du Christ.
