Extrait: Heinrich Harrer (6 juillet 1912 - 7 janvier 2006) est un alpiniste, explorateur et ecrivain autrichien. L'ascension de la face nord de l'Eiger en Suisse en 1938, a l'age de 26 ans, fit de lui une des figures de proue de l'alpinisme national-socialiste apres l'Anschluss et lui valut, ainsi qu'a ses compagnons de cordee, d'etre recus cette annee la par Adolf Hitler a Breslau et photographies a ses cotes . Membre de l'expedition allemande au Nanga Parbat dans l'Himalaya en 1939, il fut interne en Inde par les Britanniques au declenchement de la 2 Guerre mondiale. Il s'echappa en 1944 et gagna le Tibet interdit, arrivant a Lhassa en 1946, avec son compagnon Peter Aufschnaiter. Il devait y sejourner jusqu'en 1951, travaillant pour le compte du gouvernement tibetain et frequentant l'elite aristocratique du pays. Il devint l'ami du jeune dalai-lama et de sa famille. A son retour en Europe, il fit le recit de son odyssee dans Sept ans d'aventures au Tibet, livre qui fut un succes planetaire et popularisa le Tibet des dalai-lamas.
