Extrait: Geronimo Gimenez y Bellido, ne a Seville, le 10 octobre 1854, et mort a Madrid le 19 fevrier 1923, est un compositeur et chef d'orchestre espagnol. Il s'est essentiellement consacre a la composition de zarzuelas, tels que La tempranica et La boda de Luis Alonso. Il ecrivait son prenom avec un "G," bien qu'il s'ecrive officiellement avec un "J." Il apprend la musique avec son pere, puis a Cadix, avec Salvador Viniegra. Enfant prodige, il est a 12 ans, premier violon au teatro principal de Cadix. A 17 ans, il dirige une compagnie d'opera et de zarzuela, debutant comme directeur a Gibraltar avec l'opera Safo de Giovanni Pacini. Boursier au Conservatoire de Paris, il y etudie a partir de juin 1874, le violon avec Delphin Alard et la composition avec Ambroise Thomas. Il reoit le premier prix d'harmonie et de contrepoint. Il voyage ensuite en Italie et revient en Espagne, en s'installant a Madrid. En 1885, il est nomme directeur du Theatre Apolo et peu de temps apres directeur du Theatre de la Zarzuela.
