Mainly a defensive midfielder, he played for over a decade in the same club abroad, Hertha BSC, also being one of its vice-captains. With 280 Bundesliga appearances, he is Hertha's most capped player. Born in Pecs, Dardai started his professional career with local Pecsi Mecsek FC, moving in January 1996 to BVSC Budapest. He helped his new club finish second in both the league and cup. In the same month of the following year, he signed with German second division Hertha BSC, appearing in 10 games before the end of the season, when the club was promoted. From then onwards, Dardai became an essential first-team member for Hertha, as it qualified several times for the UEFA Cup.
