Excerpt: Daniel Grian Alexander (born 15 May 1972) is a Scottish politician and the Liberal Democrat Member of Parliament for Inverness, Nairn, Badenoch and Strathspey. Currently the Chief Secretary to the Treasury, he was formerly the Secretary of State for Scotland and the Liberal Democrat Shadow Secretary for Work and Pensions. Born in Edinburgh, Alexander lived on the island of Colonsay as a boy and was later educated at Lochaber High School, a state comprehensive school in Fort William in the Highlands of Scotland. He then went on to St Anne's College, Oxford, where he read Philosophy, Politics and Economics.
