Excerpt: Abdu'l-Baha's journeys to the West were a series of trips Abdu'l-Baha undertook starting at the age of 67 from Palestine to the West from 1910 to 1913. Abdu'l-Baha was imprisoned at the age of 8 and suffered various degrees of privation most of his life. Late in life he witnessed the relative ease of his father, the founder of the Baha'i Faith, in the last decade of his life, was himself appointed head of the religion, and was then suddenly freed at the age of 64 as a ramification of the Young Turk Revolution in 1908. During 1909 he saw to the early phase of the erection of the Shrine of the Bab and entombment of its occupants, and in 1910 transitioned his family residence to Haifa, near to the Shrine of the Bab.
