Excerpt: The Tr n Dynasty (Vietnamese: , Han Vi t:, Tr n Tri u) was a Vietnamese dynasty that ruled Vietnam (then known as i Vi t) from 1225 to 1400. They are credited with defeating three Mongol invasions, most notably in a decisive battle at the B ch ng River. The dynasty was founded in 1225 when king Tr n Thai Tong ascended to the throne after his uncle Tr n Th orchestrated the overthrow of the Ly Dynasty. The dynasty ruled for a total of 175 years, ending in 1400 when king Thi u, then five years old, was forced to abdicate the throne in favor of his maternal grandfather H Quy Ly.
