Excerpt: Joe Dooley (born 12 November 1963 in Clareen, County Offaly, Ireland) is an Irish former hurling manager and retired player. Regarded as one of the greatest players of his generation, Dooley enjoyed a successful playing career at club level with Seir Kieran and at inter-county level with Offaly. He was a corner-forward on the latter team throughout the 1980s and 1990s, and remains the only Offaly player to have won three All-Ireland titles. Dooley's other honours include six Leinster titles, one National Hurling League and one All-Star award. Even during his playing days Dooley became involved in team management. He was player-manager with the Seir Kieran team that won their first ever county title in 1988. In retirement from playing he took charge of the Tullamore and Toomevara senior hurling teams, however, he enjoyed little success with either club.
