Excerpt: The Hungarian Figure Skating Championships are a figure skating national championship held annually to determine the national champions of Hungary. Skaters compete in the disciplines of men's singles, ladies singles, pair skating, and ice dancing. Not every discipline has been held in every year due to a lack of competitors. * Both men and ladies competed together between 1900 and 1922. The European Figure Skating Championships is an annual figure skating competition in which elite figure skaters compete for the title of European Champion. Skaters compete in the categories of men's singles, ladies' singles, pair skating, and ice dancing. The 2004 Championships were held at the Budapest Sports Arena in Budapest, Hungary from February 2 through 8th. The event was open to skaters belonging to a European member nation of the International Skating Union. The corresponding competition for non-European skaters was the 2004 Four Continents Figure Skating Championships. The compulsory dance was the Austrian Waltz. Due to the large number of participants, the men's qualifying group was split into groups A and B. The 1988 World Figure Skating Championships took place in Budapest, Hungary. Kurt Browning of Canada landed the first ratified quadruple jump (a toe loop) in his free skate. Jozef Sabovcik of Czechoslovakia had landed a quad toe loop at the 1986 European Championships which was recognized at the event but then ruled invalid three weeks later due to a touchdown with his free foot. The World Junior Figure Skating Championships is an annual event sanctioned by the International Skating Union in which younger figure skaters compete for the title of World Junior Champion. The 1991 competition took place between November 27 and December 2, 1990 in Budapest, Hungary. Due to the large number of participants, the ladies and men had to qualify to participate in short and free program. Germany had a special arrangement in number of participants due to the reunification in 199
