Excerpt: Urapakkam (Tamil: ) is a census town in Kancheepuram district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. The population was 13,446 at the 2001 Indian census but now it may reach 33,000 and above. Urapakkam is the fastest growing town in the southern suburbs of Chennai in Kancheepuram District. It is situated on the National Highway (NH45) which is part of 'Golden Quadrilateral' National Highway Project. It is situated between Tambaram and Chengalpattu at a distance of 8 km from Tambaram and 20 km from Chengalpattu. The pincode for Urapakkam is 603210 (Urapakkam East) and 603211 (Urapakkam West). Urapakkam has a Railway station and two Bus stops. As of the census of 2001, there were 13,445 people and 3,048 households residing in Urapakkam.
