Excerpt: Stanley Baldwin, 1st Earl Baldwin of Bewdley, KG, PC (3 August 1867 - 14 December 1947) was a British Conservative politician, statesman and Prime Minister. He served three times as Prime Minister; first from 1923-24 then 1924-29 and again from 1935-37 and was Conservative Party leader from 1923-1937. To date, he is the only British Prime Minister to serve under three different monarchs: George V (1923-1924, 1924-1929, 1935-1936), Edward VIII (1936) and George VI (1936-1937). Baldwin first entered the House of Commons in 1908 as the Member of Parliament for Bewdley. In 1922, Baldwin was appointed as Chancellor of the Exchequer in Bonar Law's Conservative ministry and upon Bonar Law's resignation in May 1923, Baldwin became Prime Minister and Leader of the Conservative Party.
