N the 1st of July we had the mortification of "seeing the Rohilcund mutineers march over the bridge of boats into Delhi, with colours flying and bands playing. The sight made us furious. The bridge of boats was far out of range from the only place on the banks of the river where we could plant a gun, and we had no means of opposing their entrance into the city. How intensely we longed to have the base, THE RAINY SEASON. 167 ungrateful traitors fairly before us in the open field! It was a formidable addition to the enemy's numbers--three regiments of infantry, the 18th, 29th, and 68th Native Infantry, the 8th Irregular Cavalry, and a light field-battery. Whilst these troops were marching into Delhi, we received an important though small reinforcement in the headquarters and wing of H.M/s 61st; and " Cheer, boys, cheer/' played by their excellent band, put us all in good spirits. The rainy season now fairly set in, and gave rise to serious fears as to the effect it would have on the health of the force in this notoriously unhealthy situation.
