THE object which the present volume has in view, the period which it embraces, and the sources from which its contents are derived, have been already pointed out by the Title-page. Little more need be said, for these are the only subjects which demand explanation in a miscellany. Care has been taken to exclude from this collection all documents which have been previously printed.
