Rome's own Interpretation of the Predictions of Daniel and the Apocalypse, extracted from her authorised Notes appended to the Douay Bible and Rheims Testament. "Even our enemies tliemselves being judges."--Deut. xxxii. 31. The question naturally presents itself, What answer has Home to make to the charges here brought against her? What interpretation does she herself put upon texts which seem so unmistakably to assign her an unenviable place in prophecy? Audi alteram partem is a maxim which we owe to the wisdom of the ancients. There are, in truth, two sides to most controversies, and mere ex parte statements, whether of opinion or of fact, ought always to be received with the utmost caution. But it is remarkable that, in the present instance, the teaching of the Church of Rome upon the texts with which we have been dealing, both as regards the expectation of Antichrist, to be revealed in the last times, and the explanation of the K r historical prophecies of Daniel, and even of the Apocalypse--excepting, of course, the one point of their final application to herself--accords essentially with what is here stated. Let Rome speak for herself in the notes appended to her authorised versions of the Holy Scriptures--namely, the Old Testament, first published at Douay A.d. 1609, and the New Testament, first published at Rheims A.D. 1582.
