Sebbene trovisi memoria, che gia Pietro Orseolo I avesse ordinato una tavola d'altare a Costantinopoli (1), non abbiamo pero alcun cenno dell' esecuzione del lavoro a quel tempo e molto meno del suo collocamento, a cio non avendo bastato probabilmente i due soli anni io che quel doge tenne il governo. Per cio adunque e per l'iscrizione fatta apporre a quella tavola dal doge Pietro Ziani (1), e per le parole del suddetto cronista Dandolo (2), panni, senza entrare qui nelle lunghe discussioni agitate siili' argomento, aversi per certo ad attribuire la Pala d'oro al doge Ordelafo, abbellita poi e vieppiu ornata dallo Ziani (1205-1229) e dal Dandolo (13431354) (3). fon, eonfirmatione comilis reservato nre curie.
