Not illustrated. 1887 Excerpt: ...Fab., is chiefly found in the northern suburbs. In Haliplus five common kinds abound. Brychius elevatus, Pz., in R. Bollin, Noterns clavicornis, Dej., .and N. capricornis, Hbst., with Laccophilus obscurus, Pz., are in the Salford Canal; the Hydropori, with the subgenera Coelambus and Deronectes, are fairly represented by mostly common species. D. 12 pustulatus (ch.) is commoner here than in some places, onLindow Common, Cheshire, &c.; D. assimilis, Pk., rare on the same commonand onChatMoss; Hydroporus lepidus, H., is abundant; H. neglectus, Schaum, on Lindow Common.and elsewhere. H. angustatus, Sturm, vittula, Er., oa Kersal Moor, in mossy damp places; dorsalis, Fab., at Higher Broughton and Chorlton-cum-Hardy, with other abundant species of the genus, occur. Eight Agabi are found: of them, A. uliginosus, L., is in Twenty Pits, Chorlton, Alexandra Park, and Kersal; Ilybius obscurus, Marsh, in brickfield ponds, South Manchester; Copelatus agilis, F., Lindow and Chat Mosses; Colymbetes fuscus, L., of course is present, and two Dytisci viz., D. punctulatus, Fab., and Marginalis, L., also both species of Acilius. Only the most common Gyrinus is found, and Oreclochilus villosus, Mull., is at Marple only. In the Palpicornia both kinds of Hydrobius are found, of these H. oblongus, H. W., is common in most places; Philydrus testaceus, Fab., and melanocephalus, O1., are at Lindow; Serosus a finis, Brail., at Stalybridge; Limnebius nitidus, Marsh, Hough End Clough. Helophori abound. H. inter medius, Mulsant, being common; H. dorsalis, Marsh, found on Kersal Moor; the rare H. tuberculatus has while occurred. Ochthebius exsculptus, Germ., is in Bollin Valley, Hydrcena gracilis, Germ., and atricapilla, Waterhouse, are, amongst others of the genus, recorded. Thirteen ...
