During this time a long and oft-renewed debate was carried on relative to the erection and location of this house, which terminated without that unanimity which was so desirable for him who was first to occupy it. These and other circumstances rendered the situation of the young pastor one of extreme delicacy, calling for consummate prudence; yet no one of any party could find aught against him or Mrs. Ide; and soon the conviction seemed to be fastened upon the people that he sought not theirs but them. Of the rest we have heard in part, and shall fully know hereafter. The sun had already set, and the golden light was fast giving place to the gray of evening; yet a large audience still lingered. The choir sung the following farewell song. Rev. D. Brigham pronounced a benediction, and the Fiftieth Anniversary was passed. The large assembly turned away to their homes with indefinable emotions, all feeling that it was good to be there. The above report gives but a poor and inadequate idea of the eloquence, raciness, and humor which now solemnized and now exhilarated each mind, and rendered this to all present an occasion never to be forgotten. The only thing to be regretted was that the time was too short. Many speakers were not heard, and many good things in reserve were not brought forward. ORIGINAL HYMN. BY MISS BETSEY L. ADAMS.
