He expresfes his sirm considence in the divine favour and protection, rather than in any other means of fecurity that were recommended to him. 3. There is great uncertainty in the interpretation 6f this passage, of which we probably have not the true original reading. It may mean that if thofe laws, which are the foftndation of all government, be violated, as they probably had been in his cafe (Saul having promifed not to molest him, and yet having broken his promife) there is nothing left on which any man can depend. But God, who knows the injustice, will reTenge it. 5. We fee here, as on many other occasions, that tho wordssw/ does not necessarily mean any distinct part of a perfon, but is fynonymous to himself. For certainly God is not a compound being, and here and in other places mention is made of the foul of God. But it can only mean God himfelf.
