Extrait: Adolphe Charles Adam est un compositeur franais n Paris le 24 juillet 1803 et mort Paris le 3 mai 1856. Son pre, Johann Ludwig Adam, connu sous le nom de Jean-Louis Adam (1758-1848), tait un pianiste et compositeur alsacien, professeur de piano au Conservatoire de Paris. Adolphe Adam, aprs avoir commenc d'tudier la musique en cachette de son pre, entra au Conservatoire de Paris en 1817, fut lve de Boieldieu mais n'hsita pas user de subterfuges pour se faire connatre: il travaillait le soir l'orchestre du Gymnase, allant jusqu' reverser ses cachets ceux qui acceptaient de se faire remplacer et crivait des chansons et musiques de circonstances pour autrui. Malgr - gr[ce - ces facties, il acquit assez de mtier pour devenir laurat du prix de Rome en 1825. Adolphe Adam choisit la carrire qui conduisait alors le plus srement la renomme et la fortune: celle de compositeur lyrique. Son matre Boieldieu l'orienta vers l'opra-comique, genre alors en pleine mutation. Peu peu, sa renomme s'accrut. Les critiques logieuses du Brasseur de Preston parvinrent aux oreilles du tsar et Adam gagna Saint-Ptersbourg en 1839, o il fut accueilli par son propre ballet La Fille du Danube. Il composa pour la cavalerie L'cumeur des mers (Morsko Rasbonick). Adam, considr comme le digne successeur de Boieldieu, qui fut matre de chapelle Saint-Ptersbourg, se vit proposer par le tsar la mme fonction, mais la dclina.
