This helpful resource takes students through the necessary fundamentals of field experience, helping them understand the supervision process and their place in it. The authors fully prepare students for more advanced or challenging scenarios they are likely to face as helping professionals. The new edition also interweaves both CACREP and NASW standards, incorporates changes brought by the DSM-5, and places special focus on brain-based treatments and neurocounseling. Review :
"The second edition of Your Supervision Practicum and Internship is fantastic! The authors illustrate concrete, relationally engaging ways for supervisors to address the salient skills involved in the supervision process. The book is cutting edge and includes the latest in neuroscience counseling, multiculturalism, and the DSM-5. It’s an exciting book, and I will use it in the classroom and with my supervisees." Thelma Duffey, PhD, president of the American Counseling Association and chair of the department of counseling at the University of Texas at San Antonio "Combining their rich theoretical understanding of human development with decades of experience shepherding students through the challenges of clinical training, the authors provide cutting-edge, interdisciplinary guidance for students navigating the myriad intellectual and emotional trials that arise in clinical field experiences. Anchored by their understanding of neuroscience, microcounseling skills, and models of supervision, the authors provide an innovative guide to self-regulation and self-reflection while skillfully walking students through a diverse range of compellingly illustrated topics." Kathryn Z. Douthit PhD, LMHC, chair and asssociate professor, counseling and human development, University of Rochester "This second edition is packed with practical tools for personal and professional growth. The authors are renowned and well respected in the neurocounseling field and bring a fresh, neuroscience-informed approach to practicum and internship training." Thom Field, PhD, NCC, LMHC (WA), LPC (VA), chair of the AMHCA Neuroscience Interest Network "This edition is a wonderful resource for students across the helping professions who are looking to understand the nuances of transferring their educational experiences into practice. With this book as a guide, emerging professionals will be supported in making the most of their applied practice, learn how to make the most of their supervision, and understand the important interpersonal and intrapersonal changes that happen during the training process." A. Stephen Lenz, PhD, LPC, assistant professor in the department of counseling and educational psychology at Texas A&M University–Corpus Christi "The most modern guide available for learning and managing the complexities of today’s practicum, internship, and placement experiences, this new edition adds to its ethical, microcounseling, and multicultural foundation the current standards of helping professions, the DSM-5, and findings in the new field of neurocounseling. Based on this solid foundation, students can engage in practical reflections, self-assessments, and supervisory discussions to fully understand what happens in agencies and schools and master the skills for professional success."
