About the Book

Institutional Advancement reviews published empirical research on advancement in higher education, 1991-2013, and explores the field of higher education administration known as institutional advancement, a field that includes fundraising, alumni relations, public relations and marketing. Also called "development," this branch of the administrative apparatus is responsible for communicating with the public and raising support, both financial and attitudinal. Proper and Caboni ask why donors give, and scrutinize the effects of fundraising, ethics, the role of leadership in advancement, history, and public relations on the institution. A primer on the state of the field and a useful tool for advancement researchers, this extensive compilation of literature continues the groundbreaking work of The Campus Green and opens the door for a new generation of leaders and research scholars.

Table of Contents:

About the Author :
Eve Proper is Assistant Professor of Management at Laboratory Institute of Merchandising College, USA, and Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Higher Education Administration program at Baruch College, USA. Her research focuses on governance, fundraising, and institutional effectiveness, grounded in organization theory. She is co-author of Professors Behaving Badly: Faculty Misconduct in Graduate Teaching (2011). Timothy C. Caboni is Vice Chancellor of Public Affairs at the University of Kansas, USA. His research is theoretically grounded in both sociology and communication theory, and focuses on social control and stratification within higher education, and the relationships between postsecondary institutions and their external publics.

Review :
"Institutional Advancement is a compendium that should be found on every researcher's desk in the field. Proper and Caboni have cataloged the published and unpublished scholarship in the past two decades in a volume that those both new and well versed in the research will use as a reference moving forward." - Noah D. Drezner, Associate Professor, Columbia University, USA "More than two decades of philanthropy literature have been synthesized into a very readable text. Proper and Caboni's thoughtful research is a welcome addition to the field of institutional advancement, and I was engrossed in the book from page one. I cannot wait to share it with students and colleagues in the field." - Kim Nehls, Executive Director of the Association for the Study of Higher Education, University of Nevada, Las Vegas, USA

A Thrilling But Totally Believable Murder Mystery

Read this in one evening. I had planned to do other things with my day, but it was impossible to put down. Every time I tried, I was drawn back to it in less than 5 minutes. I sobbed my eyes out the entire last 100 pages. Highly recommend!
