About the Book

This valuable reference bridges the widening gap between the knowledge about the use of polymers in the cosmetics industry and the greater understanding of polymeric behaviour necessary for continuing research and development. Providing both a solid grounding in polymer science for novices to the field and fresh insights for experienced researchers, 'Principles of Polymer Science and Technology in Cosmetics and Personal Care' introduces fundamentals of polymers, including their classification, molecular weight definitions, thermodynamics, rheology and properties in the solid and semi-solid state.

Table of Contents:
Series Introduction, Preface, Contributors, 1. Elements of Polymer Science, 2. Polymer Adsorption: Fundamentals, 3. Polymeric Surfactants: Stabilization of Emulsions and Dispersions, 4. Polymer/Surfactant Interaction: Manifestations, Methods, and Mechanisms, 5. Polymer/Surfactant Interaction in Applied Systems, 6. Synthetic Polymers in Cosmetics, 7. Silicones in Cosmetics, 8. Polysaccharide-Based Polymers in Cosmetics, 9. Proteins in Cosmetics, 10. Measuring and Interpreting Polycation Adsorption, 11. The Adsorptivity of Charged and Uncharged Cellulose Ethers, 12. Evaluation Methods for Conditioned Hair, Appendix: Encyclopedia of Polymers and Thickeners for Cosmetics, Index

Review :
"...a welcome addition to the field as it fills a significant vacuum in the area of cosmetic applications of polymer carriers.... ...a very useful 90-page compendium of all the polymers and thickeners used in the field with detailed structure and properties is the piece de resistance. Highly recommended. " -Journal of Controlled Release "...an indispensable work tool." - Journal of Applied Cosmetology (2000)
