The discussion of the uniform photometric orbit is now taken up again because it is believed some improvement can be made. The probability that the component stars are elliptical was suggested by Schlesinger, but the matter was not considered in the computations, evidently because of the uncertainty of the photometric work and because of the inconvenience of the methods of determining the ellipticity then in use. In the present discussion of the system the ellipticity shows up very distinctly and becomes of considerable importance, therefore, in deriving the orbital elements. The normal magnitudes are repeated from the Allegheny publication in the following table. The phases of the first column have been changed in the fifth to refer in all cases to the time of the preceding minimum, which comes 0.135 days after the initial epoch chosen by Wendell. The observed magnitudes and the residuals from the curve computed at Allegheny for the best uniform orbit are given in the second and fourth columns. The ellipticity constant, z = 0.20, has been obtained from the maximum light observations in the same manner as for WZ Cygni in a preceding section, and the observed magnitudes have been rectified by the use of the ellipticity correction curve which is derived in the following table. The loss of light at any time due to the ellipticity variation is 1--L = V--z cos2 0, so that by transforming the quantity z cos2 0 in the middle row of the table above into stellar magnitude, we have twice the corresponding increment of loss, Axw, expressed in magnitudes.
