Not illustrated. 1905 Excerpt: ...Another way may be taken on horseback or by rickshaw to Tai tung chen (4 km), thence via Tung wu tchia t'sun, T ang tchia kou, Pau erl (a charmingly-situated village with picturesque groups of trees), Ho hsi, Ho yai, across the fiver Tchang ts'un and through Ho tung and Ho nan to Li ts'un, 13 km from Tai tung chen. The road leads through picturesque villages, and there is a good view of the mountains in the distance. A further drive of 5 km from Li ts'un brings us to Ts'ang k'ou, before entering which the establishment of the Chino J German Silk Manufacturing Company is passed. No admittance is allowed here to visitors. 27. From Tsingtau to Li ts'un (distance 15 km). This trip is made, as the preceding one, by railway to Ts'ang k'ou and thence on foot (1 hour's walk). Another way takes us along the macadamised Fortif1cation Road as far as Ho hsi, whence a partly macadamised road leads to Li ts'un (the village of the Li family, or village of plums). Li ts'un, with 1000 inhabitants, is a market village of some importance, situated on either side of the Li ts'un river, which has a south-westerly course. There is but seldom any water in the Li ts'un, and the market (every 5th day) is generally held' in its broad sandy bed. The off1ces of the District Magistrate have been situated here since 1899, and now occupy a f1ne building 600 metres south west of Li ts'un on rising ground commanding a splendid view (called by the Chinese Pei Lau). Here are also an Evangelical Mission House, Chapel and School, as well as a Chinese prison.
