Agents should be particular to see that all way bills for material and supplies for the company's use are carefully examined and verified with reference to the correctness of the weight and authority for free way billing. They should be entered on the station records, including the record of freight received, each day and sent to the freight auditor together with the way bills for commercial freight. When freight is reconsigned and ordered sent forward to another station the destination of the way bill should be corrected, any charges for reconsigning, etc., entered thereon and the shipment sent forward to its proper destination. If the station records have been written up they should be corrected; and in the event the way bill has been sent to the freight auditor, a regular revenue way bill should be made showing all the particulars except the rate and freight charges, in place of which should be noted, "Original way bill will be furnished by the freight auditor." Under the head of shipper, the name of the forwarding station should be entered, as well as the way bill number and date. If there are any advances, prepaid or miscellaneous charges, the amount of each should be specified in the body of the bill. The freight auditor should then be notified by wire to send the original way bill to the changed destination, the authority for making the change being quoted.
