OUR MOTIVES This paper was read by a member of the Brotherhood, now one of its leaders, in the fall of 1892, about twenty-eight years ago. The occasion was a meeting of the Detroit Local Assembly held in the large basement room of Grace Church in that city, the speaker being at that time a member of the Brotherhood in Detroit. The lessons derived are fully as apropos now as then. Nearly three decades have failed to alter very greatly the frailties of the average man who becomes a wearer of our little red cross. Apply this searching examination to the members of your own Chapter, to your own self. In many cases it will fit very snugly.--Editor. WHY do we do it? What is there within us urging to approach our man on matters of the Church or betake ourselves from a cheerful fireside out into a stormy night to that Chapter meeting?
