In the first place, we shoidd emphasize in our minds that the book of Revelation was written to the seven churches in Asia, and not to the world, nor any part of it. And not only so, but that the book of Revelation is a summary of the entire Bible, and that the condition of the seven churches, together with their pastors and members, represent or show the condition of the church and people of God in their time state, in every age of the world. Forasmuch then as the Bible is a narrative of Christ and his sanctified and redeemed people, 1 shall aim to confine myself to them only, in my exposition of the above Scripture. Also I shall aim to make this letter more suggestive than declarative, because the subject is so deep and mysterious that I feel it my duty to be very cautious, and move slowly, and to let my words be few and well ordered, if the Lord will. I feel as though I were now occupying holy ground, and therefore should, as much as in uie is, put off the shoes from off my feet. That is, 1 should lay aside all human dependence and wisdom, and trust alone in Clmst. The text at the head of this article, as well as the general tenor of the Bible, demonstrates the fact that in overy age of the world, some of the Lord's regenerated people in their time state have wor shiped the beast (antichrist) and his image (Arminianism) and received his mark in their forehead, or in their hand. I will quote a few passages which I think support this view. The revelator, John, in speaking of the beast which came up out of the earth (the old Jewish earth, ) who deceived them that dwelt upon the earth, by the miracles which he had power to do, says, "Aud he causeth...
