Now. before starting on an explanation of that item, it is desired to call the attention of the committee to the fact that $28,000,000 of that amount was to cover the figures received from France. These are the. latest figures we have been able to obtain from France. They came about a month ago. The Chairman. You mean you received those figures from the Army in France? Col. Cress. Yes, sir. As soon as we found we were to revise the estimates we again cabled to Fiance asking them for the amount of money they would need for 1920. Answer to that cable has not yet been received, but it is hoped it will be here in a few days now, and the committee will be advised as soon as it comes. The Chairman. In connection with that, this committee has been informed that it is the purpose of the department to withdraw troops from France practically at the rate of 300,000 a month, so that ff our Army has to stay over in the area of occupation we will be...
