About the Book

The brand-new first edition of Exploring Management supports the teaching and learning of core management concepts by presenting material in a straightforward, conversational style with a strong emphasis on application. Comprising of 16 chapters, this first edition is succinct and more concise than the popular larger Schermerhorn Management title. The content is chunked so that digestible sections are followed by activities that check student comprehension. The text is full of current examples, social issues, reflection questions and group work activities that bring key management issues to life. And there is a broad variety of cases, such as end-of-chapter cases and and end-of-book cases that include nine probing case studies and four integrative capstone ones. New ANZ videos focus on small businesses and start-ups companies with Managers who provide insights into how they got started and how they deal with key management issues. Supported by a variety of digital resources, including five interactive learning modules with a bank of videos and interactive exercises shaped around the PLOC Management Framework, this text is textbook designed for an engaging learning experience.

Dr John R. Schermerhorn Jr is the Charles G. O’Bleness emeritus professor of management in the College of Business at Ohio University. He earned a PhD in organisational behaviour from Northwestern University, an MBA (with distinction) in management and international business from New York University and a BS in business administration from the State University of New York at Buffalo. He received an honorary doctorate from the University of Pécs in Hungary and is an honorary professor at the National University of Ireland at Galway. He previously taught at Tulane University, the University of Vermont and Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, where he also served as chair of the department of management and associate dean of the College of Business Administration. Dr Daniel G. Bachrach (Dan) is the Robert C. and Rosa P. Morrow faculty excellence fellow and professor of management in the Culverhouse College of Business at the University of Alabama, where he teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in management and leadership. Dr Bachrach earned a PhD in organisational behaviour and human resource management — with a minor emphasis in strategic management — from Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business, an MS in industrial/organizational psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh and a BA in psychology from Bates College in Lewiston, Maine. A member of the Academy of Management, Dr Bachrach is an elected fellow of the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology (SIOP), the Association for Psychological Science (APS) and the American Psychological Association (APA). Associate Professor Peter Woods is an academic leader with a passion for inspiring students and building bridges across cultures. He serves as director (EQUIS) of the Griffith Business School, while continuing to develop the next generation of culturally competent managers through teaching and research and PhD student supervision in the Department of Business Strategy and Innovation. He leads the EQUIS accreditation process within the Griffith Business School. His award-winning research has been published in leading international academic journals including the Journal of Business Ethics and Information Technology & People. His graduate and undergraduate teaching has been recognised by multiple awards, including the prestigious 2010 Australian Learning and Teaching Council Award for Teaching Excellence (Internationalisation) and 'Brisbane's Best Lecturer' (2012). Dr Fatima Junaid is senior lecturer in the School of Management at Massey University's Business School. Fatima's research interests are in three key areas: first, the burdens of trauma and stress caused by prolonged exposure to disasters and terrorism; second, wellbeing and psychosocial risks; and third, women and marginalised populations. With these three foci she is interested in what organisations can do to help improve the wellbeing of their workforce and, in turn, overall community. She has been teaching management and organisational behaviour for over a decade and is currently engaged in the HR–organisational behaviour sphere of New Zealand and Pakistan. Dr Tui McKeown is an associate professor in the Department of Management at Monash University's Business School in Melbourne, Australia. Her research focuses on an active examination of the entrepreneurial behaviour of individuals within the changing world of work. She coined the terms 'independent professional' (IPro) and 'nano business' to promote exploration and debate about what constitutes work in the 21st century. Her passion to make a positive difference for small businesses and entrepreneurs is reflected in her teaching, research and public service to small business practice. Her teaching weaves together themes around small business, entrepreneurship and intrapreneurship to prepare graduates to be career-ready. Dr Jess Co is a lecturer in the Department of Management at the Monash Business School in Victoria, Australia. She has more than 27 years of university teaching experience specialising in management, strategy, entrepreneurship, creativity and innovation across universities in Australia, the UK, South Africa, Sweden and the Philippines. Her research interests include technology-enhanced learning, entrepreneurship education, ethnic and youth entrepreneurship and social entrepreneurship. She has published in international journals and presented at international conferences on entrepreneurship and technology-enhanced education and has written textbook chapters on strategy and entrepreneurship. She is also a fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
