About the Book

Isil and Rehaak wake up one morning to find their young friend Laakea unconscious in the smithy, burning with a fever so high that his skin steams. As they rush to cool his fever, Isil reveals she has been searching for Rehaak, an exile from Narragan accused of heresy. After Laakea awakens with the ability to forge powerful ehlbringa weapons, Isil insists they are connected by their shared status as the Creator's followers. Meanwhile, in the distant upper levels of Abalon, the elderly Sokai leader Eideron is troubled by recurring dreams he can't recall, suspecting they foretell some upcoming danger. Eideron's dreams prove prophetic when he and his friend Himish learn that Simea and Aibhera, two talented young Sokai, have identical visions. A looming darkness is approaching Abalon, and three strangers-a Nila and two Abrhaani-stand against it. Despite her exceptional abilities, Aibhera was prevented from becoming an apprentice because of her mother's remarriage. Eideron and Himish are outraged when they discover that Councilor Herron and his supporters deny her worthiness. When the older men support Aibhera, Herron, and his allies expel Himish and Eideron from the ruling Synod for their efforts. Kyonna, Aibhera's sister, a talented young Windrider pilot, soars above Abalon's patchwork of fields and gardens. Through her occupation, she escapes the prejudice she faces on the ground as the daughter of a "corrupted" woman. When Virtue, a group of masked protesters, storms the dance club where Kyonna's friends celebrate her achievements, a confrontation erupts, pitting the Windriders against the intruders. Rehaak's quest for the ancient book, the Aetheriad, takes him to the village of Dun Dale. Near the village, a group known as Odium, followers of a dark entity named Ashd'eravaak, capture him. Tortured physically and spiritually, Rehaak experiences a transformation. He experiences the Creator's love and surrenders to the Creator's purpose for his life. Meanwhile, Aelfric, a battle-worn Eniila warrior, returns to his homeland of Baradon to reclaim his rightful role as war leader from his treacherous brother Aelrin. As Eideron, Aibhera, and Simea prepare to leave Abalon and venture into the dangerous wasteland, they are guided by their prophetic dreams. As the Sokai travel toward Baradon and the lost city of Berossus, they must learn to harness the Creator's power through ancient prayer-songs, while facing attacks from the Nethera's minions. The fate of Aarda hangs in the balance as this diverse group of heroes, united by their shared exile and the Creator's purpose, prepares to face the Netheras' schemes. With the Sokai, Eniila, and Abrhaani working together once more, they might uncover the secrets of the Aetheriad and turn the tide against the darkness ahead.
