About the Book

If not now, when?

Anchored in the tenets of justice, repair, and belonging, Equity Now is a comprehensive guide for educators that emphasizes the urgent need for immediate action to dismantle systemic barriers in education. Aimed at K-12 professionals at all levels of the education system, the book urges us to move beyond individual efforts by applying an equity lens to our policies and practices.

Author Tyrone C. Howard, one of the leading authorities on issues related to racial inequality in our schools, provides

  • Essential practices, strategies, and resources for classroom teachers
  • Suggestion for engaging parents, families and caregivers in schools
  • Recommendations for engaging data in an equity based way

Review :
Readers will feel ignited by Tyrone Howard’s revolutionary charge: We need equity now! He reminds us that no longer can we wait idly by while our children’s educational rights are being withheld, and no longer can we engage in educational practices that have not elevated the lives of our children. In Equity Now, Dr. Howard responds to historical and sociopolitical inequities and provides a practical framework rooted in (1) justice, (2) recognizing and repairing past harms, and (3) belonging. This book is a comprehensive guide for anyone and everyone who truly seeks to advance equity in and around schools. Equity Now serves as a catalyst, urging us to be bold, courageous, and brave as we advocate for what we know is right. It equips us with the necessary language, resources, strategies, and practices to rectify the injustices perpetuated by our educational system. This book transcends being a mere guide; it is our pathway forward. Each page resonates with reasons why I hold Dr. Howard in the highest regard.
