About the Book

This volume discusses the latest experimental and clinical approaches to study seizures and epilepsy. Chapters in this book cover detailed protocols for ex vivo and in vitro experimental models and widely-used in vivo (acute and chronic seizure) models in epilepsy research. Chapters also cover techniques to screen the effective leads for the treatment of refractory seizures of pharmacoresistant epilepsy and invertebrate, non-mammalian models. In the Neuromethods series style, chapters include the kind of detail and key advice from the specialists needed to get successful results in your laboratory.  Cutting-edge and practical, Experimental and Translational Methods to Screen Drugs Effective Against Seizures and Epilepsy is a valuable resource for researchers, in both industry and academia, interested in learning about this important and developing field.

Table of Contents:
Models of Seizures and Epilepsy: Important Tools in the Discovery and Evaluation of Novel Epilepsy Therapies .- Protocol for Rodent Organotypic Hippocampal Slice Culture Model for Ex Vivo Monitoring of Epileptogenesis.- Methods for the Screening of New Chemical Entities for Deciphering Neuroinflammatory and Associated Pathways in Seizures: An In Vitro Perspective.- Cellular Electrophysiological Methods to Decipher the Altered Synaptic Transmission Associated with Drug Resistant Epilepsy.- Acute Seizure Tests Used in Epilepsy Research: Step-by-Step Protocol of the Maximal Electroshock Seizure (MES) Test, The Maximal Electroshock Seizure Threshold (MEST) Test, and the Pentylenetetrazole (PTZ)-Induced Seizure Test in Rodents.- Procedures for Electrical and Chemical Kindling Models in Rats and Mice.- Methods for the Induction of status epilepticus and Temporal Lobe Epilepsy in Rodents: The Kainic Acid and the Pilocarpine Model.- Seizure Monitoring inRodents.- Protocol for 6Hz Corneal Stimulation in Rodents for Refractory Seizures.- A Method to Induce Lamotrigine-Resistant Corneal Kindled Mice.- Protocol for Drug Screening with Quantitative Video-Electroencephalography in a Translational Model of Refractory Neonatal Seizures.- Methods to Investigate Seizures and Associated Cognitive Decline using Zebrafish Model.- C. elegans as a Potential Model for Acute Seizure-Like Activity.

A Thrilling But Totally Believable Murder Mystery

Read this in one evening. I had planned to do other things with my day, but it was impossible to put down. Every time I tried, I was drawn back to it in less than 5 minutes. I sobbed my eyes out the entire last 100 pages. Highly recommend!
