About the Book

Quantitative Evaluation of Measurement Uncertainty: Theory and Practice provides comprehensive coverage of dynamic, direct, indirect, and combined measurements, giving a complete perspective on measurement uncertainty. It features pioneering approaches to evaluating uncertainty in dynamic measurements.

Responding to the critical need for standardized approaches to uncertainty evaluation, this book provides a clear pathway to ensuring that measurement results include properly calculated uncertainty intervals with genuine coverage probabilities. With detailed practical examples spanning physics, chemistry, electrical engineering, and mechanical engineering, readers will gain a thorough understanding of both statistical and non-statistical methodologies for uncertainty analysis.

Bridging theoretical principles with practical applications, this book will provide engineers, researchers, and graduate students with the essential tools to assess and communicate measurement uncertainty with confidence.

Table of Contents:

1. Concept of evaluating measurement result uncertainty. 2. Varieties of measurement uncertainty. 3. Evaluation of research results based on the concept of measurement uncertainty. 4. Practical recommendations and examples of evaluating uncertainty components. 5. Uncertainty in Dynamic Measurements. 6. Evaluation of trueness and precision of laboratory test results.

About the Author :

Oleksandr Vasilevskyi (Member, IEEE) is currently a Senior Researcher at the Walker Department of Mechanical Engineering, the Cockrell School of Engineering, The University of Texas at Austin, USA. He received his Ph.D. degree in information and measuring systems from Vinnytsia National Technical University, Ukraine, in 2006, and his Doctor of Engineering Sciences (Higher Doctorate) degree in standardization, certification, and metrological equipment from Lviv Polytechnic National University, Ukraine, in 2015. Prof. Vasilevskyi was conferred the academic title of Professor (Full) in metrology and industrial automation by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine based on the decision of the Academic Council of Vinnytsia National Technical University in 2017. Prof. Vasilevskyi has received many awards for his research and teaching, including the Laureate of the Prize of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine for Young Scientists in 2019, the Badge of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine for “Scientific and Educational Achievements” in 2020, and the badge “Excellence in Education of Ukraine” by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine in 2019.

Michael Cullinan (Member, IEEE) is currently an Associate Professor and the Associate Department Chair for graduate studies at the Walker Department of Mechanical Engineering, The University of Texas at Austin, USA. He received his Ph.D. degree in mechanical engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), USA, in 2011. He is also the Director of the UT Austin’s Semiconductor Science and Engineering Program. Dr. Cullinan has received many awards for his research and teaching, including American Society for Precision Engineering Early Career Award in 2021; the ASME Kornel F. Ehmann Manufacturing Medal in 2020; the Outstanding Young Manufacturing Engineer Award from the Society of Manufacturing Engineers in 2016; the Rising Star Award from the Sensors Expo and Conference in 2017; the multiple Best Poster Awards from American Society for Precision Engineering in 2017 and 2018; and the Outstanding Teaching by an Assistant Professor Award in 2017 and an Associate or Full Professor from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, The University of Texas at Austin, in 2024.
