About the Book

Cognitive and Affective Neuroscience and Neurobiology presents the mind as a spatio-temporal platform shaped by dynamic neural activity. It examines how systems like attention, cognition, and emotion emerge from complex neurobiological processes that operate moment to moment. The author proposes a unified theory based on two key ideas: there is no dualism between biological and psychological (all mental functions are biological), and there is no division into a conscious and unconscious mind (everything is consciously created in the unconscious neurobiological machinery). Building on this theory, the author examines neuroanatomical aspects of the brain, drivers—including motivations and reward systems—cognition and feelings and emotions, considering the effects of both environmental and cultural factors. Through discussions of brain anatomy, motivation, cognition, emotion, and cultural influences, the book offers fresh insights into the origins of behaviour and the concept of self. It is essential reading for students and scholars of cognitive neuroscience and neurobiology.

About the Author :
Mirko Čorlukić carries out psychotherapy in private practice, in which he uses neuropsychoanalytic or neuropsychodynamic models of psychotherapy.

Review :
Problems like "what is consciousness" or "what is thought" still remain unanswered. Yes, there are many attempts to explain the mind, and we have also seen quite a few successful explanations of small parts of the problem. However, there is still no satisfactory complete explanation. Through his book, Mirko Čorlukić conveyed this state of knowledge (or lack of knowledge) to us today. He combed the literature, diligently read numerous relevant books and found which of the authors concluded something interesting and relevant on the subject. From various books, she chose what was important, central. Almost every major, ambitious attempt to arrive at that answer received treatment in the book. The author presents various insights, explains them and gives the reader the basis of the ideas of each approach, and also has his own opinion about what is important and what should be emphasized, the book is not only a report on the state of the literature, but also the result of his own work - in a way contribution to the whole problem. Ph.D. Danko Nikolić, Evocenta, Robots go mental, Frankfurt institute for advanced studies, University Clinic Frankfurt In summary, the mind is a biological-mental phenomenon, and everything mental arose from the biological. Although people trust their mind, the principles of randomness, predictability, and imprecision are attached to it. The psychological theory of mind advocated by the author relies on two fundamental hypotheses. The first is that there is no dualism between biological and psychological, all mental functions are biological. The second is that there is no division into conscious and unconscious mind, everything is consciously created in the unconscious neurobiological machinery. This is a book for all those who really want to connect psychology and cognitive and affective neuroscience. The author introduces us to the fundamental concepts of modern neuroscience in order to offer his answer to the question "What is the mind?". Although the question is multidimensional, bringing it down to the framework of neurobiological machinery, it is easy to understand that neurobiology is a fundamental tool for our cognitive processes. The text is intended for those who already have a fairly good understanding of the secrets of the brain and the neurobiology of behavior, but also for those who are just embarking on a neuroscientific adventure.
