About the Book

Psychopathology, Function and Occupation - formerly Bonder’s Psychopathology and Function - builds on 40 years of expertise in providing a framework for understanding mental health issues and conditions, as well as practical insights into assessment and interventions, for individuals, families, and communities.

Describing occupational therapy’s unique perspective and contribution to prevent and mitigate emotional and psychological challenges, each chapter explores medical, sociocultural, and associated mental health issues along with theory, assessment and interventions. New to this edition, each diagnostic chapter covers community-based practice, mental health challenges for families, psychopharmacology, as well as prevention and strategies for positive mental health promotion. Also featuring vignettes of client stories to bring the subject to life, the new edition also includes new chapters on population mental health, including school-based practice, mental health and physical disabilities, and the effects of obesity. This textbook emphasizes the pivotal role of occupation in mental health and overall quality of life, incorporating the latest research and practices.

It uniquely offers a comprehensive perspective, covering everything from etiology and intervention to fostering positive mental health through community-based approaches. An indispensable resource for students and professionals in occupational therapy.

Included with the text are updated online supplemental materials for faculty use including PowerPoint Slides, classroom quizzes and an instructors manual, available at https://www.routledge.com/9781041029045
