About the Book

Chemically Modified Surfaces is a monographic series designed to serve as a medium for the publication of new scientific results concerning surface modification by means of chemical reaction. The variety of substrates which may be involved, and an equally extensive variety of modification reactions and methodologies makes this a broad topic crossing many traditional disciplinary lines. This second volume contains the papers presented at the Chemically Modified Surfaces symposium in Colorado where experts from around the world presented papers on such topics as biomaterials, catalysis, surface characterization, and surface modification in electronics.

Table of Contents:
PREFACE PLENARY LECTURE Chemical Modification of Polymer Supports for Solid Phase Peptide Synthesis, BIOMATERIALS Biosensors: Concepts and Applications, Comparison of Methods for Activating Hydroxyl Groups for Preparing Immobilized Biomolecules, Efficient Coupling of Amino and Thiol Ligands to Solid-Phase Hydroxyl Groups Activated by 2-Fluoro-1 -Methylpyridinium Salts (FMP) The Adsorption of Proteins on Chemically Modified Hydrophobic Surfaces, Spherical Cellulose with Controlled Porosity for Biomedical Interactions, Reactive Microporous Composite Membranes, Synthesis of DNA on Silica Surfaces, Immobilizing Fluorescently-Labeled Albumin for Use in a Fiberoptic Bilirubin Monitor, Methods for Preparation of Immobilized Enzyme Reactors for Use in Combination with a Solid State Chemiluminescence System, Immobilized Carbonic Anhydrase for Carbon Dioxide Management, CATALYSIS Wrapping Polymers Around Metal Atoms, Metal Clusters and Metal Colloids, Attachment of Organorhodium Complexes to Metal Oxides: Chemical and Physical Characterization, Novel Chemical Pathways at Chemically Modified Electrodes, Synthesis and Characterization of Silica-Bound Propanesulfonic Acid, Silicate Clays (LSC’s) for Catalytic Applications in Nucleophilic Displacement Reactions, SURFACE CHARACTERIZATION Interactional Effects in the Chemisorbed Layer, The Surface Analysis of Plasma-Deposited Amorphous, Silicon Nitride by Surface Tension Measurements and Photoacoustic IR Spectroscopy, A Comparative FTIR-PAS-Spectroscopic Study of Boron-Nitrogen Compounds in Mordenites, Characterization of Chemically Modified Silica Gels by 29Si- and 13C- NMR Spectroscopy, Proton NMR Studies of Silica Surfaces and Modified Silica Surfaces, A Study of Chain Motion and Configuration in Dimethyloctadecylsilane-Modified Silica Surfaces SURFACE MODIFICATION IN ELECTRONICS Chemically Modified Microelectrode Arrays: New Kinds of Electronic Devices, Metal , Studies of Adsorbed Organic Molecules at a Well-Defined Pt(lll) Electrode Surface by LEED, Auger, EELS, and Electrochemistry, Selective Modification of Polymer Surfaces by Ion Implantation, Optical and Electrical Properties of Surfaces Coated with Amorphous Silicon, GENERAL SESSION Laser Surface Modification of Aluminum for Enhanced Adhesion, Photochemistry on Metal Surfaces: Dynamics, Bonding, and Charge Transfer, In Situ Characterization of Interfacial Phenomena by Optical Second Harmonic Generation, Induced Solid-Surface Room-Temperature Luminescence Analysis, Dual Zone Liquid Chromatographic Materials.
