About the Author :
Krishnan Sivaraman is an experienced academician and industry expert based in Mumbai, currently serving as Associate Professor and Assistant Dean of Research & Development at Fr. C. Rodrigues Institute of Technology (FCRIT), Navi Mumbai. He earned his Ph.D. in Metallurgical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay and holds the esteemed certification of International Welding Engineer (IWE). With over 20 years of rich industry experience at Larsen & Toubro Heavy Engineering, Dr. Sivaraman possesses profound expertise in welding technology, metallurgy, and quality assurance. His scholarly research spans advanced welding processes, materials engineering, and manufacturing optimization, with numerous publications and presentations at national and international journals and conferences. He is widely recognized for his mentorship and leadership in cultivating future engineering innovators. A Fellow of the Institution of Engineers (India), Dr. Sivaraman maintains strong industry-academia linkages by providing high-impact technical consultancy and spearheading collaborative projects. He is an active and influential member of various national and international welding societies and forums, driving advancements in welding science and fostering professional excellence within the engineering community. J. Krishnan is a distinguished metallurgist and former Research Scientist/Technologist at the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), where he served for nearly four decades. His career has been dedicated to the development of advanced materials and joining technologies for nuclear and allied applications under the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), Government of India. Among his many contributions, Dr. J Krishnan is credited with the development of numerous dissimilar metal joints, essential for high-performance engineering systems. He holds a patent for an Aluminium–Stainless Steel diffusion-bonded joint, and he developed a floor-type electric heat treatment furnace that was honored with the prestigious Prime Minister’s Award for Excellence in Public Administration. In addition to his research work, Dr. Krishnan has played a key role in training and mentoring future engineers, delivering lectures as part of BARC’s one-year specialized training program in nuclear engineering. Following his retirement from BARC, Dr. Krishnan continued his contributions to industry and academia. He served as Senior General Manager at Bharat Fritz Werner (BFTL), Indore, and later as the L&T Chair Professor at Maharaja Sayajirao University, Baroda, for two terms. Currently, Dr. J Krishnan is active as a consultant, academic examiner, and research guide. He holds a Ph.D. in Welding Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IIT Bombay). Vishvesh J. Badheka studied Metallurgical engineering at The M.S. University of Baroda, India received a Bachelor's, Master's, and PhD in Metallurgical Engineering. He qualified Diploma of International Welding Engineer awarded by the International Institute of Welding in Dec 2011. Presently he is working as a Professor of Dept. of Mechanical Engineering at the School of Technology and Dean of Academic Affairs at Pandit Deendayal Energy University (PDEU), Gandhinagar, India. He received funding from various funding agencies including DST-Young Scientist (Twice), ISRO, DRDO, and DAE for his research in the area of advanced welding processes, Narrow Gap Welding using Metal cored and Flux cored wires, Friction Stir Welding similar and dissimilar metal, Friction stir processing for surface composites and superplasticity, Friction welding of pipe for dissimilar metal combinations, and ATIG of reduced activation martensitic steels & 9Cr-1Mo steels. So far he has completed ten sponsored R & D projects and guided 45 M. Tech & 14 PhD research into his credit in the area of Advanced Welding Processes. He has published 150+ international journal publications and 60 Intl and national conferences. Additionally, he holds two Indian process patents on narrow gap torch and oscillation devices. He also edited a book on Advances in Welding Technologies for process development and Additive Manufacturing for Advance Applications: Technologies, Challenges and Case Studies, published by CRC Press. Member of various professional bodies including IIW, ISNT, ISTE, IIM, IIF, MRSI, and AWS. He is the Chairman of the IIW-PDEU students’ chapter and a Young professional volunteer of the International Institute of Welding on behalf of IIW-INDIA. Dr Vishvesh has also received several academic awards. He received the Dr Vikram Sarabhai Award for the year 2009-10 for ‘Friction Stir Welding of Aluminum and its alloys’; from Gujarat Council on Science and Technology (GUJCOST), Government of Gujarat. He was also awarded the Bronze medal by the “Center for Innovation, Incubation and Entrepreneurship (CIIE) of the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM). He received several Best Oral Presentation and Best Research Papers awards from The Indian Institute of Welding. He received the National Technical Teacher’s Award by AICTE 2022 in recognition of teaching excellence in technical education. He also received Teachers Associateship for Research Excellence (TARE) - DST, 2022.
