About the Book

This book brings together innovative research and practical insights on how engineering can drive a more sustainable built environment. Covering topics from ventilation for healthier classrooms and integrated daylighting for student performance, to life cycle carbon assessment, energy performance data, and indoor environmental quality, it demonstrates how science and design can work together to reduce environmental impacts while improving human well-being.A unique feature of this collection is its breadth—linking embodied carbon analysis and building performance modelling with digital innovations such as Building Information Modelling (BIM) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) sector. Real-world case studies from the UK and beyond ground the research in practice, making the findings relevant to academics, students, practitioners, and policymakers alike.By combining evidence-based strategies with emerging technologies, this book offers a forward-looking framework for creating buildings that support climate goals, enhance occupant health, and prepare the construction industry for a sustainable future.

About the Author :
Ali Bahadori-Jahromi is Professor of Civil Engineering, Interim Head of Civil Engineering, and Doctoral Lead for Engineering at the University of West London, overseeing PhD admissions and research development within the discipline. He also leads the Building Performance and Climate Change Research Group and serves as Chief Editor of Engineering Future Sustainability. His research focuses on sustainable construction, building performance, and the application of AI and machine learning for data-driven modelling and decision support. A Chartered Engineer and Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers, he has authored and edited several books, including Development and Evaluation of Composite Insulated Beams and the edited volume Advances in Civil Engineering: Sustainable Materials and Resilient Structures.Professor Changfeng Fu is a Professor of Built Environment at the University of West London, UK. He was awarded a PhD in Built Environment from the University of Salford, UK, an MPhil in Town Planning from Anglia Ruskin University, UK, and an MEng in Architecture from Huazhong University of Science and Technology in China. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists (FCIAT) and a Chartered Member of the Royal Town Planning Institute (MRTPI). With over 30 years of teaching and research experience in architecture and the built environment, his recent research focuses on Building Information Modelling (BIM), sustainable built environments, and the application of artificial intelligence in design, construction, and management.
