About the Book

This book presents original mathematical models of thermal/phase-transformation stresses, micro/macro-strengthening, inter/transcrystalline crack formation, and mathematical definitions of limit states with respect to the crack formation. The models (continuum mechanics) are determined for two types of two-component materials, which consist of isotropic ellipsoidal precipitates in isotropic crystalline grains (e.g., matrix-precipitate composites) or of two types of ellipsoidal isotropic crystalline grains (e.g., dual-phase steel). The strengthening and limit states represent important material phenomena. This monograph is applicable within basic research/engineering practice, suitable for university courses and for non-specialists in continuum mechanics. The appendix presents the mathematical topics required to perform the mathematical procedures in this book.

About the Author :
Dr Ladislav Ceniga holds a DSc in Theoretical Mechanics from the Academy of Sciences, Prague, Czech Republic (2013), a PhD in Physics of Solids from the Institute of Experimental Physics, Slovak Academy of Sciences, Kosice, Slovak Republic (1999), an MSc in the same subject from the Faculty of Sciences, Pavol Jozef Safarik's University, Kosice (1988-1993) and an MSc in Mechanical Engineering, the Technical University, Kosice, Slovak Republic (1984-1988). He has been affiliated with the Institute of Materials Research, Slovak Academy of Sciences, Kosice, since the year 2000 and held a position at the Institute of Experimental Physics at the same institution from 1994 – 2000. His research is centred around mathematical models of stresses of different origins (thermal expansion, phase transformations, hydrogen, coherent interfaces, interstitial atoms), mathematical models of the stress-related material phenomena and mechanical properties in composite materials.
