About the Book

Green buildings are designed to reduce their environmental impact over their entire life cycle. This book provides an overview of the principles of green building and energy-efficient systems including benefits of green buildings, the different types of green building rating systems, and the various energy-efficient systems that can be used in buildings. It includes case studies (India’s Green Building policy) of green buildings and energy-efficient systems.

  • Illustrates the green building concept and approach toward green design
  • Explores the role of green buildings for society and sustainability
  • Describes energy-efficient Heating Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) and low-power Internet of Things (IoT) devices in buildings
  • Discusses a design example of green buildings and quantitative figures for measurement of green buildings
  • Includes technologies, illustrations, and applications supported by examples

This book is aimed at graduate students and researchers in energy and civil engineering and architecture.

He received his PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering for innovative research in solar thermal energy storage field from Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology, Chennai, India, in 2018. He has more than 18 years of teaching experience at various levels and he is currently working as a Professor & Deputy Dean Research in JAIN (Deemed-to-be University), Bengaluru, India. He is recipient of a research grant of INR 15.20 lakhs & faculty training grant of INR 3 Lakhs from AICTE - Delhi (GoI) and he also received a research grant of INR 40 Lakhs from VGST, Government of Karnataka, India. Since 2021, he has been recognized among Stanford University’s World’s Top 2% Scientists for four consecutive years. He has published more than 125 research articles in various WoS (SCI) and Scopus indexed journals with the cumulative impact factor of 450 (as per SCI, Clarivate Analytics). He received many awards for his outstanding contribution to research and academics. His current research interests include thermal energy storage with nano- encapsulated PCM, methods to reduce NOx emission in bio- fueled CI engine, and solar- powered refrigeration systems. He is a life member in various professional bodies like the Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE), Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), India.

Gloria Pignatta is Scientia Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) at the Univeristy of New South Wales (UNSW Sydney, Australia. She received a PhD degree in Energy Engineering from the University of Perugia (Italy), in 2016. In the same year, she was Postdoctoral Fellow at the Inter- University Research Center on Pollution and Environment “Mauro Felli” (CIRIAF), University of Perugia (Italy). From 2017 to 2018, she worked as Postdoctoral Associate and Building and Construction Expert at the Singapore- MIT Alliance for Research and Technology (SMART), in Singapore. Since 2018, she has been High Performance Architecture (HPA) Research Cluster expert in the School of Built Environment, Faculty of Arts, Design and Architecture at UNSW Sydney. She is also Investigator at the Material and Manufacturing Institute (MMFI) at UNSW. In 2021, she was nominated City Futures Research Centre (CFRC) Fellow. She is an expert in building energy efficiency and sustainable solutions for the built environment. Her research touches on different fields, from engineering to architecture, material science, and urban climate, and aims to face the global problem of climate adaptation and mitigation, as well as social challenges, such as energy inequality. She has been actively engaged in research and contributed to the knowledge and literature with more than 60 research papers, 3 books, and numerous international conference papers.
