About the Book

Energy economics and policy are at the heart of current debates regarding climate change and the switch from fossil fuels to renewable forms of energy. They are also crucial in dealing with energy supply and security issues caused by global shocks such as the war in Ukraine. An Introduction to Energy Economics and Policy outlines pressing issues concerning current global energy systems, particularly energy production and use. It presents economic frameworks for valuating policy goals and for understanding the major energy and climate challenges faced by industrialized and developing countries. Integrating insights from behavioural economics into the standard neoclassical approach, particularly the role of behavioural anomalies, this book offers a novel introduction to energy economics and policy and provides a fresh perspective on real-world issues in energy and climate. This title is also available as open access on Cambridge Core.

Review :
'Filippini and Sirnivasan hit all the right notes in their crystal clear and comprehensive introduction to energy economics and its policy considerations. The book in wide-ranging, covering the most important topics for budding energy economists facing the current energy transitions. It brings cutting-edge research in energy economics to bear in an easily accessible way that should prove invaluable to students around the globe.' Kenneth Gillingham, Senior Associate Dean and Professor of Economics, Yale School of the Environment 'Energy Policy is now a top issue for governments and societies, with an increasing attention due to the environmental/climate crises and to major geo-political problems and shifts. Given what's at stake, Economics must pay an important role in the foundations, design and assessment of energy policies. Filippini and Srinivasan's book is a much-needed and updated contribution in this field due to their comprehensive, rigorous and practical approach. A key book for students, academics and practitioners.' Xavier Labandeira, Professor of Economics, Universidade de Vigo, Spain
