About the Author :
Eelco F.M. Wijdicks MD, Ph.D. is Professor of Neurology, College of Medicine and Science, Mayo Clinic and established the Mayo Neurocritical Care Specialty. He was the founding editor of the journal Neurocritical Care, the official journal of the Neurocritical Care Society. He has been named Honorary Member of the Neurocritical Care Society. Additionally, he is Professor of the History of Medicine, former president of the International Society of the History of Neurosciences and prior chair of the American Academy Section of the History of Neurology. He is the author of numerous textbooks and peer reviewed papers on Neurocritical Care. He single-authored a collection of historical essays on the foundation of neurocritical care. He previously authored a medical history book on neurocritical care entitled First Famous Papers for The Neurointensivist (2013). He is an attending neurointensivist in the Neurosciences Intensive Care Unit at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester, MN.
