About the Book

Embracing neurodiversity, Autistics in Academia amplifies the voices of thirty-seven autistic academics from around the world, unveiling their unique perspectives in academia. Sandra Thom-Jones, an academic and advocate, spotlights overlooked contributions, addressing challenges veiled by stigma. The book aims to dismantle barriers and foster a more inclusive academic landscape. Drawing on first-hand narratives, this work not only raises awareness but also provides insights into how non-autistic individuals can actively contribute to the success and enrichment of autistic academics. This book is an essential resource for those seeking to understand, support, and champion the contributions of autistic individuals within the academic world, and for anyone interested in building a more inclusive academy.

Review :
'Tenacity, Resilience, Determination. Just 3 of many recurring, inspirational tones echoing across the journeys of Autistics in Academia. A unique opportunity for insight into the personal and shared experiences of Autistic academics, exposing the deepest intricacies of challenges in navigating academia, contextualised through a series of incredible lived experiences.' Danny Clegg, Associate Professor and Digital Lead for the Institute of Health and Social Care, London South Bank University 'A resource, a guide, a love letter. This is the most important piece on Autistics in the world of academia. By building trusting relationships, Sandra Thom-Jones was able to bring together diverse Autistic scholars willing to reveal their honest and sometimes intense experiences inside the academic world. Essential reading for all!' TC Waisman, co-founder of the Autistic Researchers Committee at the International Society for Autism Research and co-founder of Adapt Coaching & Training
