Review :
"Key Practices for Fostering Engaged Learning is the right book for individuals and institutions seeking to introduce or advance institutional engaged learning. It builds on the literature on high-impact practices to offer readers a mix of research and practical strategies to enhance and deepen student learning. The book identifies six key practices to foster engaged learning, and they are applicable to a range of engaged learning activities inside and outside the classroom. It is a strong guide for making engaged learning high impact."--Dawn Michele Whitehead, Vice President of the Office of Global Citizenship for Campus, Community, and Careers, American Associations of Colleges & Universities "This book had me at 'engaged learning'! Drawing on a vast body of research and featuring ample practical examples, Key Practices for Fostering Engaged Learning: A Guide for Faculty and Staff provides a comprehensive and indispensable primer for all educators interested in enriching their capacity to transform any educational encounter into a meaningful learning experience for college students. By focusing on six cross-cutting practices available in college classrooms, employment, and leadership in student organizations, this book offers an institution-wide approach for improving undergraduate education."--Jillian Kinzie, Associate Director, National Survey of Student Engagement, Indiana University Center for Postsecondary Research "This expertly crafted, succinct guide is full of big insights and useful examples for educators and institutional leaders alike. Moore makes a clear and nuanced case for each of the key practices--not only that research supports its importance, but also that large-scale surveys indicate it is too infrequently or inequitably used--resulting in a compelling call to action. The student stories and practical ideas for faculty and staff, both woven throughout, help make Key Practices for Fostering Engaged Learning a must-read for anyone interested in improving learning in and beyond the higher education classroom."--Cassandra Volpe Horii, Associate Vice Provost for Education and Direct of the Center for Teaching and Learning, Stanford University
